Christuskirche :

The Christuskirche was designed by Gottlieb Redecker, a German government architect, who drew up the first designs in 1900 and 1901. One of the most iconic Windhoek landmarks, the church still has weekly services.

Parliament Gardens :

Parliament Gardens is a small park in downtown Windhoek, Namibia. It is located between the Tintenpalast and the Christuskirche. It was laid out in 1932 and was originally called the Tintenpalast gardens, adopting its present name after Namibian independence in 1990.

National Museum :

The Independence Memorial Museum provides some enlightening context to the struggles of this young country. The museum focuses on the anti-colonial resistance and the national liberation struggle of Namibia.

Alte Feste :

Designed by the infamous Captain Curt von François , the Alte Feste (Old Fortress) served as headquarters of the imperial German Schutztruppe during German colonization of South West Africa. The fortress is also home to the Reiterdenkmal, which was moved into the fort in 2013.

Train Station :

Officially opened in 1993, the Transnamib Railway Museum is located in the Windhoek’s beautiful old Cape Dutch style train station on Bahnhof Street, constructed by the German colonial administration in 1912. While smaller, the museum has interesting pieces and information covering the history of rail in Namibia.

Katutura Township :

Katutura, meaning ‘The place where people do not want to live’ in Otjiherero, is a vibrant township where the majority of the Windhoek’s residents live. ‘Tura, as locals refer to it, offers a great insight into the contrasting sides of the city.

Oshetu Market :

You can’t come to Namibia without enjoying some Kapana (beef pieces cut and grilled over an open fire). Apart from some the best Kapana in town, Oshetu Community Market offers you a great vibe, marathon chicken, traditional spinach and mopane worms.
